Jacob Modise is the founder and Executive Chairman of Batsomi Investments Holdings (Pty) Ltd, a black economic empowerment group established in 1998 that has investments in the industrial, technology, defense, motor, hospitality, power and healthcare industries.

Mr. Modise’s academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Accountancy from the University of the Witwatersrand; a Chartered Accountant professional qualification from the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Public Accountants and Auditors Board; a Masters of Business Administration from the Wits Business School; Advanced Management Program from Sanford: Global Utilities Institute; and Advanced Management Programs from Harvard Business School.

Mr. Modise is an established entrepreneur, having grown Batsomi from a small holding company of hotel interests in 1998 into a well-diversified industrial group. The group has partnered with some of the leading global companies in the various sectors in which it operates and has been able to add significant value to their local operations. He has established networks and relationships within the public and private sectors.

He is a trustee of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund (NMCF) since 2002.

Dominic grew up in Brighton, England. He was educated in England and holds the HCIMA (now the Institute of Hospitality) qualification. In 1989, Dominic joined Hilton International and worked in Germany (Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin), The United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi) and South Africa (Johannesburg and Durban).

In 1999 Dominic resigned from Hilton International and joined KPMG in South African as part of their Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism Business Advisory Unit. His main motivation being that he recognized the tourism opportunities, not only in South Africa in particular but in Africa in general. He headed up the business unit from 2001. He resigned from KPMG in 2008.

In 2010 Dominic started working with Cii Holdings (Pty) Limited through to head up their hotel asset management and acquisitions and development team. In 2017 Dominic joined the Batsomi Group as Chief Operating Officer for the groups hotel division. Batsomi hotel portfolio includes the four Mercure Hotels in South Africa Mercure Bedfordview, Midrand, Randburg, Nelspruit, and the Protea Hotel Johannesburg Wanderers. Between 2008 and 2010 he enjoyed a brief respite from the hotel industry and pursued his hobbies, mainly military history, and charity work. Dominic is married with two children. He lives in Johannesburg.
