Batsomi has a long history in South Africa’s hotel and leisure sector. In 1998, Batsomi was one of the founding partners in the Protea Wanderers Hotel and continues to be a shareholder. In 2016, Batsomi acquired 100% shareholding in the French hotel giant Accor’s four Mercure hotels in the country. There are three hotels in Johannesburg – namely Bedfordview, Midrand, Randburg – and one in Nelspruit. This acquisition forms part of the group’s strategy to expand its hotel asset portfolio substantially in the next four years, and make Batsomi the leading empowerment company in the hotel sector.
